All_Things_Stroke_Logo-01_1.svgWelcome to All Things Stroke, your comprehensive resource dedicated to supporting stroke survivors, their families, carers, and healthcare professionals across West Yorkshire and Harrogate. Our mission is to provide accessible, user-friendly information and guidance to empower individuals on their unique stroke recovery journey.

Our Story

The inception of All Things Stroke was a collaborative effort, born from the insights and experiences of stroke survivors, carers, healthcare professionals, and partner charitable organisations. Recognising the need for a more person-centred approach to stroke recovery, our co-production group identified gaps in existing resources, particularly concerning everyday challenges such as managing post-stroke fatigue, returning to work, and navigating driving post-stroke. With initial funding from NHS England and facilitation by the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Integrated Stroke Delivery Network (WY&H ISDN), we embarked on creating a platform that addresses these needs holistically.

Our Partners

Our journey has been enriched by the invaluable contributions of key partners:

  • Stroke Association: As a leading UK charity, the Stroke Association is dedicated to supporting stroke survivors. They offer a wealth of information, support services, and research initiatives aimed at aiding recovery and preventing strokes. Their services include stroke recovery programs and communication support for those affected by aphasia.
  • Aphasia Support: Founded in Yorkshire, Aphasia Support is a charity created by individuals with aphasia and their carers. Their mission is to improve the well-being of people with aphasia by providing tailored speech and language therapy, along with long-term support. They have secured funding for projects like 'The App Club,' offering therapy to stroke survivors with communication difficulties.
  • Different Strokes: Established and overseen by younger stroke survivors, Different Strokes provides peer support, practical advice, and advocacy to address the unique challenges faced by younger individuals affected by stroke. They offer a network of peer support and exercise groups, empowering younger stroke survivors and carers to reclaim their lives.

These organisations have generously granted us access to their resources and have been instrumental in shaping the content of our website through active representation in our co-production group.

Our Facilitator

ISDN Logo.jpgThe W&YH ISDN has been instrumental in supporting our co-production group and driving the development of All Things Stroke. By uniting a diverse range of stakeholders, the ISDN ensures that our platform remains inclusive, relevant, and attuned to the evolving needs of our community. The ISDN's focus is on connecting key players across the stroke pathway to pinpoint critical areas for improvement and transformative change.

Through fostering collaboration and open communication, it works to bridge gaps and create a cohesive, integrated approach to stroke care across West Yorkshire and Harrogate.

Our Vision

Aligned with the West Yorkshire co-production principles, All Things Stroke is committed to placing lived experiences at the forefront of our resources. We strive to move beyond rigid recovery pathways, acknowledging that each person's journey is unique. Our platform offers not only practical advice on navigating everyday challenges post-stroke but also incorporates a searchable directory of support groups and services linked to geographical locations. This feature is designed to ease identification and access for stroke survivors, carers, and families, ensuring they can find the support they need within their local communities.

As we look to the future, Phase Two of our website, planned for 2026, will introduce a dedicated section for health and care professionals. This will include training materials and resources designed to enhance the delivery of exceptional care, ultimately improving patient outcomes throughout their rehabilitation journey and beyond.

Thank you for visiting All Things Stroke. Together, with our partners and community, we are committed to supporting you every step of the way on your path to recovery.
